Stellar Refraction
Length: 5 minutes; Number of Dancers: 6
"It is a prayer, this dance; each movement reaches in long undulations to the heavens and becomes a part of the eternal rhythm of the spheres." - Isadora Duncan (1928).
This melancholic work, inspired by imagery of orbiting celestial bodies, begins as an investigation of space and form. Drawing on a classically influenced movement vocabulary, the performers revolve around one another as if compelled by some magnetic force, alternating between repulsion and attraction. The dance's kaleidoscopic spatial configurations draw out a range of emotional reactions such as isolation and desire.
